The LoRa Basics™ Station protocol simplifies management of large scale LoRaWAN® networks. LoRa Basics™ Station is the preferred way of connecting Gateways to The Things Stack. This section contains information for connecting your gateway to The Things Stack using LoRa Basics™ Station and its subprotocols.

The Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder is the original LoRaWAN® packet forwarder, connecting to servers through the Semtech UDP protocol. Many gateways include a pre-compiled version of the Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, often adapted to the specific gateway. Warning: The Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder has many security and scalability drawbacks. Use LoRa Basics™ Station to connect your gateway to The Things Stack.

The Things Industries Gateway Protocol is a proprietary protocol developed by The Things Industries. Unlike other protocols like LoRa Basics™ Station and Semtech UDP Packet Forwarder, The Things Industries Gateway Protocol can only be used by gateways provisioned by The Things Industries.
